4 Plus Program
Objectives
During the school year, each of the objectives below will be
addressed during the course of the daily instruction and
activities:
By the end of the school year, each 4 Plus student should be
able to:
Social
- Put on and take off outdoor clothing independently
and store correctly
- Practice good personal hygiene including proper hand
washing
- Follow instructions and ask appropriate questions to
clarify directions
- Use good table manners including waiting for
everyone, eating neatly, using “please” and “thank you” for requests,
and cleaning up
- Recite own phone number and address
- Play both independently and in cooperative groups
- Use appropriate techniques for handling conflicts
Creative Arts
- Use paints, pastels, play dough, scissors,
construction paper, and mixed media to create both representational and
abstract works of art
- Sing many songs with appropriate movements and
gestures
- Use simple rhythm instruments
Motor Development
- Use climbing equipment safely
- Pedal a tricycle
- Run, jump, hop, gallop, and skip
- Hold a pencil using the correct (tripod) grip
- Cut neatly with scissors
- Put together Legos and puzzle pieces and string
beads
Language Arts
- Listen to and understand stories read aloud
- Retell a story or summarize information learned in
class using an expanded vocabulary
- Rhyme words and name words with the same beginning
sound
- Understand the concepts of print (the relationship
between language and print, conventions of left to right, top to bottom,
and spaces between words)
- Identify all upper and lower case letters
- Identify the initial sound and letter of spoken and
written words
- Recognize own first and last names
- Print own first and last names
Math
- Count by rote to 30 or more
- Recognize numerals to 30
- Use a one-to-one correspondence in counting objects
and playing games
- Recognize sets of 1 – 10
- Use the terms "more," "less," "add," and "take away"
when using numbers
- Use counting and adding when creating sets in
projects and in play
